7CS With Ante 8/10/2005 9:40:43 PM   (Total replies: 3)
Im a career NL player (career as in... its all I know, haha). and Im reading these strats and they sound great, but Im wondering: I play on Party Poker, and there's a .25 Ante, usually the average pot hovers around 11-14 dollars... Im thinkin, decent money. But do these strats change with the ante? I play for like 25 minutes, and have no starting hand, and leave extremely frustrated, about 3 dollars down.

do I just stick in there and wait? or do I loosen up? or just join RV so I ...

Need Limit Advice 8/21/2005 4:54:13 PM   (Total replies: 1)
Okay guys, here's the deal.

Im a NL player. Ive learned how to read most bets, and get good solid reads on players in IMO a short amount of time.

Talking to a friend of mine, we compared bankrolls, and hourly +ev. He plays limit, from 1/2 up to 5/10, and he's raking in the dough.

I have a good limit strategy that I downloaded, it really seems like it would work... but after a couple hours of sitting down to one of these fishfests, I only came back with what I put ...

would these still be effective to use in reference to online limit?

...well, I guess it doesnt matter, I know enough about online players to change it a little.

thanks for the quick reply!

Hey, any of you guys do this? 8/21/2005 9:12:52 PM   (Total replies: 2)
I'm always looking at my game, and what beats me, and this is what I really found. In any type of tourney, I'll usually be cruising right along, my strategy working fine, and then it'll happen.

Right out of nowhere, I'll make a complete idiot play! Something so unlike what I do normally that its apalling. My latest incident happened today at AP (btw, I will have a strategy for tourneys at AP that differs with Fred's a little, based on the players I found at AP..blub ...

you couldnt have described any better the same situation I do. Its like, I turn into a fish for about 45 seconds, and all my winnings go byebye. You know, I almost always take a good 10 seconds to make my move, unless Im putting a move on someone (which is largely wasted on online poker), but you're right, when Im acting this way, I usually fire away like a maniac.

This has got to stop.

Fred... I didnt realize you used AP as part of your study, but as far as the freerolls ...

I base a huge amount of my reads off of how quickly people make moves. If you first set them into a category of fish/barracuda/shark... fish worst, shark best... you can then make judgments off of their speed. I think this would be a great idea, and as a computer programmer, I would love to help you out with this, given I know the language you're using.

lemme know!

Inquisitive bets 8/25/2005 6:54:07 AM   (Total replies: 4)
I have a technique that I use quite a bit, on the flop. Almost no matter what I have, I will make a small (usually) bet on the flop, just to see where I stand. I picked up the technique off of a Phil Helmuth DVD. It was made for limit, but the technique seems to stand well in NL... its amazing how many people will just fold to a reasonable bet.

Here's my question:

1. Do you guys do this?
2.What is the usual level of the bet?

My only concern about using this ...

I do it on the flop. not preflop... not sure if you're misunderstanding me.

okay here's why I do it.

I HATE being unseated from the driver's seat at the table, and when you bet you're the aggressor. Okay, I wouldnt say that I do it every time, but whenever I have a piece of the pot. Here's the way I look at it:

if I have a piece of the flop, or a draw Im willing to stay in for, and I bet 1/3 to 1/2 of the pot, I feel like the person is more likely to call. However, ...

legate, that gives me an idea... guys, whenever you do this, post it up, I think that just reading this has helped me stop these idiot plays, and it will probably help others.

like legate said, when this post dies we can celebrate the death of a huge weakness in our collective tournament skill
