Re: US/Canuk hockey olympic match not bad 2/22/2010 2:31:48 PM   (Total replies: 1)
Yeah, that was a pretty good game. I don't watch hockey except for games 5+ of the Stanley Cup or good (the qualifier makes them rare) international games. I'm always like, "Man, that was exciting! Why don't I watch regular season hockey?" Then I watch 5 minutes of regular season hockey and I remember. Last night was pretty exciting, though.

Canada-Russia in the quarterfinals is going to be sick.

Re: Continuation Bets? 7/22/2010 8:18:22 AM   (Total replies: 1)
Warning: The following advice is for Full Ring tourneys. I'm absolutely postive it's terrible if you're playing 6-max or HU or cash games.

First off, you're using c-bets like you think it means "a bet on the flop that's a bluff" but I think most people use it as "a bet on the flop that occurs largely because you were the last pre-flop raiser so you have momentum". Note that this definition includes hands where you do hit the flop. If I misinterpreted your post, I apologize.

I ...

Re: Playing Online Since 99 - Need New Strategy 1/25/2010 11:42:30 AM   (Total replies: 1)
You've obviously been playing a while, so think back on all of the different types of games you've been in. Try to remember:

1. What are your strong and weak points as a player?
2. Which game do you most enjoy playing?
3. Which game are you currently best at?

I ask them in that order because they are listed most important to least important. Pick the game that fundamentally suits your style, and also is one of your favorites. It doesn't have to be THE favorite, but it ...

Room rec's 6/9/2010 10:08:40 AM   (Total replies: 1)
Guys, I'm currently only on Cereus and a Merge site. I'm looking to pick up an additional site in October (yes, I'm planning that far ahead. I like to keep my money movement well planned.) Currently, the two contenders are Stars and "whatever site Coach is running a promo on at the time." Should I even consider anything else?

For those that don't know/remember me, I'm a low-volume player, currently playing primarily low stakes PLO8 tourneys while dabbling in NLHE tourneys and micro ...

1. It's not like you're putting money into PokerZimbabwe or something, so you shouldn't worry about them going belly up.

2. As for whether you're worried about being cheated, that's honestly up to you. I don't play at levels where cheaters would be wasting their time, so I feel comfortable there. If you're not comfortable with your level of security there, don't play. But Stars in the only major site without a scandal, so you couldn't really hang at FTP, then, either.

3. If ...

2010 NFL over/unders 7/13/2010 12:20:59 PM   (Total replies: 0)
Over/unders for total wins is up this year. As always, I prefer picking under for two reasons:
1. Injuries hurt teams, and a key one (QB, LT, etc.) will cost a team 3+ wins, but it's rare that a bad team will be in position to benefit from such a thing happenening to their opponent more than once per season.
2. The numbers for all the teams average >8, which is mathematically impossible to achieve, meaning there are some good, safe unders out there.

For this year's picks, I ...

Idiot rides <1% to a big ticket 6/7/2010 11:30:48 AM   (Total replies: 0)
I'm in a satellite, down to 3 people. First gets a ticket, second a smaller ticket. The guy to my left is a decent player, the guy to my right, the luckiest idiot ever. Stacks are still pretty deep, so when he's calling while way behind, it's not because he has to. I have an astronomical chip lead, but guy to the right rolls me like this in the span of about 8 hands:

1. A7o v A3o on A75 flop. When the money goes in, he's 3.3% to win, 4.1% to tie. He ties.
2. He gets it in pre-flop ...

Re: this makes absolutely no sense to me 7/16/2010 9:43:24 AM   (Total replies: 0)
For what it's worth, I found myself breaking even at LO8 cash after a long history of running (slightly) positive and moved into PLO8 SNGs. It took a little while to adjust my play, but once I did, they're still very very juicy.

Responding to donk-shoves 8/9/2010 3:39:23 PM   (Total replies: 0)
I've had experiences with terrible players recently, and it got me thinking. I have a couple of questions:

1. Low ($3?) buy-in NLHE MTT. Maybe an hour in. I have just under 2x starting stack, which is about (or slightly below) average. Bigger (but not huge) stack starts open-shoving. He's been called 3 times previously, tabling A4o, K8s, and A7o (against my tens, which held up to get me where I am now.) I get dealt p8s in the BB and he open-shoves again. Folds to me. I'm ~40BB ...

Re: January results- February goals 2/2/2010 3:29:18 PM   (Total replies: 0)
Increased my b/r by 24% through the first 3 weeks (I'm under-rolled, but working my way back up), then took my shot. My shot clanged harmlessly to the ground, then couldn't buy a cash the entire final week. Ended up up only 8%.

February goal:
Enjoy Dragon Age: Origins. Return to poker refreshed.
