r there any well established pros/grinders on here? Posted: 12-23-2010 10:52 PM |
if so then I keep hearing things like how you can be a very good player and go for months on a losing streak now I have a question cause that doesn't sound right
even on the worst losing streak if you play enough hours you should be able to play out the variance regardless of how many bad runs you have. say you play ring game and you know your win rate and you're suppose to make $3000 a month playing $50 buyin games. if you're on a downswing month that means you're losing. and if you're losing that means you've got $3000 worth of catching up to do and that doesnt sound legit dawg |

When you have a 25k hand downswing you'll understand.
There are things outside the volume of a REAL downswing itself that cause it to take some time. Even the toughest poker psyches need a break/review/refresher
Oh, and if you're playing in terms of a bankroll, there is never any "catching up to do".
TBH it sounds like you don't understand enough about BR management or how small edges are actually pushed and how sick variance actually is |

I make 6 figures a year playing no limit texas holdem. I bought 2 new cars last month with my poker winnings. |

i was for a few years, but then got over confident/stupid, played too high and experienced a very normal short-term downswing, but since i was playing too high that very normal downswing really messed with my head. losing $3000 at 15/30 isnt common, but its not rare either. the games themselves are most definitely beatable but you do have to treat it like a job if you wanna make a living out of it.
if you arent willing to put in a lot of volume you are just gonna fail, having a commitment to playing a lot of hands/day is almost as important as actual playing ability. |
