Would be good to get some of your reads on the player...

Generally I would say that you should 3bet preflop in hand 1. Stops it getting multiway, you get money in when you're miles ahead of any reasonable button opening range etc.

I wouldn't c/r flop either - he's not that likely to cling onto AJ and other hands you beat if you show strength by c/raising and then leading the turn, it's just not a good value line because you're wa/wb. You get value here by picking off barrels on a board that's favourable for cbetting and letting him valuebet inferior aces which are mainly folding to a strong line (like yours). You don't have to protect your hand either since there isn't much in the way of draws. As played, with you showing a load of strength and him still chunking it all in over the top you've gotta respect it unless you have any reasons to suspect he is mental aggro, or that he thinks he can bully you off hands. If he's not very aggro then I expect him to flip over T9 typa hands plus AJ a bit too. If he's real loose you might see JJ as well. Prolly a good fold without reads.

Hand 2 is gross. Don't call the turn unless you're calling the river tho, it's a waste. Probably don't call the turn anyway I'd say. It looks like AK/AA to me with the 4bet pre from utg plus postflop - the action that follows makes me rule out hands from his UTG 4bet range that don't hit the flop like QQ/KK since it's such a weird bluff line. Looks more like he decides to check the flop to let you take a stab, bets tiny on the turn (1.60 into like 7-8) to see if there's any value out there and then ships the rest on the river hoping you'll come along again. I doubt you will see this kind of line as a bluff much or ever (homegames with your buddies excepted lol), especially with so little FE on the river. Anyways, don't bother, there will be better spots.

Reads would be really helpful tho, try to include them if you have them.

Tunnel vision tilting you.

Also, post your reasoning in the hands you post imo - makes for much more interesting discussion, plus you get a feel for how the way you're thinking about hands as compared to others.

You really need some info on villains here.

I agree with palled on hand 1.

Vs. an unknown I'd fold hand 2 to the 4bet preflop.

hmm..... I just noticed it was the same villain. I'd have to see some stats and watch him play.

Well I had played with the guy for a good hour or two.... hand one I put him on a range of any mid pair and ace ten thru ace queen... any big pair or big slick he was openin 4x big blind so I thought on flop I was a head of his range but the jack on the turn slowed me down and I thoguht he had hit 2 pair or had ace 9 the whole time

Hand two has the first time he had 4 bet me and I had been 3 bettin quit a bit so I thought he may of been playin back at me but now lookin back a fold pre flop may of been the best move...so the turn is a shove or fold right? Bc just callin would be a huge leak?

HUD + Pokerstove will give you a better idea of hand ranges based on percentages. Say you have stats that says a person opens 5% of hands in EP, you can use Pokerstove to see what 5% of hands looks like. Just a friendly FYI.  Smile

Hand 1: Fold preflop. AQo multiway in a raised pot sitting out of position will not be a super profitable decision. As played, the flop check-raise is really bad. What worse hands do you expect to call your raise? What better hands are going to fold? I can't think of any for either category unless aspjr208 is a huge spewtard. Not only that but if another player was slow playing a 9 hoping the preflop raiser would bet they're still left to act. You're basically turning a hand with marginal showdown value into a bluff. Once your raise was called you should be check/folding to anything but a 9 or A.

Hand 2: Your 3-bet is a few BB's too small. Once a player overcalls and aspjr208 4-bets just fold your hand. He's repping a better hand and he's UTG. Okay so you called and saw an ace high flop. Anything but folding is pretty bad.

In both hands you managed to put in half your stack and then fold without getting to showdown. That's a monstrous leak.

At the micros I would actually recommend folding AQo here. You'll end up in more multi-way pots in this spot, especially if the preflop raiser decides to call, and you'll be out of position. I know it sounds gross but trust me, it's the correct play in most cases.

Yeah I misread who the original raiser was - thought it was villain otb. CO is still a favourite raising with trash spot but with the overcall from villain I'm actually ok with money's line. It definitely feels gross tho haha.

I'm trying to decide if I would now ever 3bet here. I'd probably 3bet AK anyways, people just can't stop themselves going broke with worse aces...

Might also still 3bet this with some villain dependent reads. + Loads of players at the micros call raises and fold for serious 3bets. Might be some differences cos it's 10NL not 2NL, but I don't think 3betting is horrible here. It's just not quite as auto3bet as I thought it was when I'd originally read it.

no. 6max that is terrible. this is a fistpumping insta-3bet /fold line preflop. Changes the whole hand dynamic.

9max facing EP action it is probably a fold, but facing MP action its still a 3bet.

In either case get out of the habit of flatting big hands, especially OOP. I actually like a fold more than a flat, as much as I hate folding here

Hand 2 3bet MORE preflop... don't make those gay little threebets. Pot size your raises pre. Like every site has a pot button now that even Stars has figured it out... use that.

Then bet/fold the flop, and fold to any more action unless you get a free queen / runner runner nuts.
