Been a long time... Posted: 01-04-2009 11:50 PM |
Been a long time since somebody posted down here so I thought I would wake it up a bit...
I been grinding FtP points and rake on the 7stud .25-.50 table for while now and have noticed when I first sit at a table I get some great hands and often increase my sitdown by 50% or better. But after the first 15 or 20 mns the cards stop coming, and the hands that i do stay in end up getting sucked out on by the calling stations...
I think I read somewhere that FtP had a policy against shitting and gitting-sitting down for a hand or two then switching tables, but I wonder if this would not be a better over all strategy , at least for building rakeback and BR.
I tend to only stay in a hand if i have straight going and no one else is showing the cards i need to complete the straight. I'll also see 4th street for 1 bet if I have big pair or fl possibility.
What do you like to see for a starting hand?
Thx. |

policy about switching tables? if thats true thats retarded, i table hop all the time and there is nothing wrong with it.
imo you will experience more bad beats in stud hi than any other form of poker, people chase more in that game than any game i know, and i play hi/lo split.
starting hand strategy is simple, play big stuff. baby pairs make baby 2 pairs and baby sets, both of which are vulnerable. big pairs maybe big 2 pairs and big sets, both of which are often good enough to win, dont come out of the blocks at a disadvantage, just dont play the low pairs in almost any situation, i MIGHT defend my bring-in in a multiway pot for 1 bet with a concealed baby pair, but thats about it. of course, by all means attempt to steal blinds in late position with any pair but in early position and multiway pots usually dont even bother
same thing applies to straight and flush cards, play big stuff. 456 is almost never playable, but TJQ is. the reason is that incase you miss you have backup pair draws and if your gonna have that you want big pairs not baby ones.
basically, just play big cards. stud starting hand strategy is pretty much that simple. |

| thanks bobby but I dont think you can steal blinds at .25 -.50 cents tables, at ftp anyway... I've had people call my bet on 7th street knowing they couldn't beat the cards I had showing.. maybe I'm playing at the wrong sites... used to do ok at 7s on UB till I had to withdraw my funds from there. |

i play .25/.50 stud a lot and you absolutely can steal the antes and is a big reason why any hand i open a pot with its for a raise. i NEVER open limp anymore and the only time i will limp is behind a limper(sometimes) if im at a table where this is impossible to steal then fine, ive built a bigger pot with the best hand, variance is higher but still +ev.
of course, it really just comes down to table composition, sometimes there will be a couple people with near 100% VPIP and you cant steal and sometimes you get tighter players and can, youll find tight and loose tables at all stakes, its an ebb and flow thing.

quote "100% VPIP"
see, now your talking smart on me... whut do that mean???
I'll give it a shot w/ the blind stealing... maybe I limp too much and need to start betting and raising instead of just calling on the open... might chase soem of the callers out before they hit... thx |
