Stud HI/low
Posted: 02-06-2008 02:23 PM
Hi

After playing hold'em for years I've started playing stud last week.
But I'm struggling a bit with the betting pattern.
This Is a hand where I lost many chips.

What do you say about the way it was played?

Was it just tuff luck or did I play it wrong?
The "preflop" play wasn't good, i know.

Call fifth street.

Check river.

You do have 2 pair... but really your hand is only a 1 pair catcher. You really needed to catch a low card on 5th to continue being aggressive, especially since he has a better low draw showing than you have in your hand... on the river, since you have no low, and you're playing for a very slim high, this is a definite check.

3rd street is questionable, but you are the bring-in so you have to play the hand , just make the bringin with should be like 60 i think?, i dont know what your trying too accomplish by raising your bring in, that is rarely the right play.

4th street a fold here is probably the better play, if he catches a brick(9-K) then go ahead and call the bet, never raise. its only 5s up dont get crazy.

5th street, clear cut fold

it doesnt matter that you almost certainly have the best high hand at the moment, the fact is that there is a very high chance he is either freerolling you or he has a A or 7 plus a low and is drawing to a better hand in both directions, this is something you will have to get use to very often in stud8, folding made hands on 5th street.

the idea in hi/lo is you want to scoop pots, since it is pretty clear your scoop chances are dismal on 5th its a cut and dry fold. once you realize hi/lo games are all about scooping, the game is easy. even a no limit player could beat it because so many people play too many one direction hands, lots of dead money out there.

generally in all stud variants the hand is decided on 5th street, on 3rd and 4th it costs you 2 bets, 5th 6th and 7th cost you 6 bets, thats a pretty big difference. if you feel you are favored to scoop then jam it, otherwise fold it unless you have a strong draw.

Andy, you put the money so crazy~~O(∩_∩)O

Usually, I'd like cautious play the game, Of course a lot of people dislike that method, because they feel too smallness~ But sometimes it is prudent will bring an enormous amount of wealth~
