flop an ace, you can play
flop a king, you can stay
flop a draw, you can chase

if nothing came, stay away

There's really no ONE WAY to play any hand in hold em. A lot people overplay it all the time and, seem to forget that it's only a STARTING HAND. It also depends on positioning and the integrity of the other players in the hand. It's best to try to get heads up with any good starting hand.
I almost always show strength with it and, depending on the players and, the positioning, I might fire at the pot again if I sense weakness on the flop. If they are in EP (and a calling station) that post flop raise might buy you a free river card (like a drawing hand). Because if they hit a weak flop they might tread lightly on the turn and, you can check behind them to see a free river. In that same position against a tight/passive player, the better move might be to fire again (if you think they're capable of folding their middle pair).
It all depends on the table. Money said it best "If it were only that easy".

I used to always raise with these, no matter what position, but I found myself too often with a missed flop and forced to either make a continuation bet out of poistion, or show weakness and fold to any bet.

Lately, I have been raising with them from middle or late position, limping from early position, and min raising with them in the blinds (just in case you hit). I don't min raise from early position out of the blinds because I want to see if anyone else in the hand is going to raise at all.

This has been working pretty well for me. I do get sucked out on a lot more then when I used to raise all the time (lost the other night when I hit my A and some guy hit 2 pair with A5), but I'm under no pressure to continue to show strength when it is really a mistake to do so. And you can get a little more action from guys who hit the top pair but don't have a premium kicker.

I actualy like to raise with AK in any position. even if there's 6 limpers and Im sittin in the big blind. because the last thing I want, is to flop an ace or a king, on a board of something like

K 8 10, and get in trouble with some fishstick playing K8. and if I raise big preflop at least I'd have a better idea as to what they could possibly have. if I dont raise, they could damn near have any two cards for all I know and it'd just be guessing all the way

Yeah, a very good point and that's why I used to do it that way. I may even go back to it. I just hate showing strength out of position. Makes it hard to play effectively post flop at times and gives you limited information about the real strengths of others' hands. If you raise pre-flop and some-one calls, are they calling with a raise-calling hand, or is it a hand they would have raised with themselves if no-one else had?

My favorite situation for getting AK in early position is limping in with it, then having someone after me do the raise. Really disguises my hand well, lets me know they have a strong hand and takes care of getting rid of the trash hands pre-flop for me.

Win a small pot, you're okay
Win a medium pot, you're luckay.
Lose a large pot, you want to puke.
Lose any pot, you might have a country to nuke.

Okay that was bad..

for a small raise preflop so that i can keep KQ KJ and weak aces in the pot, AK is only a strong hand if you flop top pair AND outkick someone.

i will play it passively out of position, in the BB with like 5/6 limpers im likely to check, i have found that i win way more pots when im in position so i try to stay in position. i will however make a big raise in late position into 5/6 limpers with a wide range of hands at times but i try not to do it out of position unless i have a big pair.

for my style of poker position is more important than starting hands.
