Amount Wagered Per Day
Posted: 04-02-2004 03:28 AM
Anyone else noticed the massive increase in estimated amounts wagered so far this year.

Not wanting to promote other sites :-) but the amount estimated on Poker Pulse has risen dramatically from the $50million range to the $80million range.

Any bets (not real ones you gambling addicts) on how long before the figure breaks the magic $100m barrier?

Personally I think a lot of it is down to the Big Pot contest here at PSORG - some of you have really been chasing down big pots!

rofl, Ash, I just got around to reading this thread.  To think, our $25 contest responsible for millions of dollars of revenue for the poker industry!

Seriously though, players are flocking to poker...I just wish they would televise some 7 stud tournaments, so you holdem players would have to share some of the fish!

I play ~5k-10k hands a wk. Imagine on average a 1/2 and 2/4 so lets call it 3BB. Assuming i play 30% flop and 2BB per hand (sometimes i fold sometimes i bet out.) That's $6*30 = $180 dollars per 100hands. Therefore i'm betting 9K-20k a wk. Assuming 50 wk (i dont think i play that much), that's 0.5-1Million wagered just by me.

I heard Party was making 10k per hr in january. I hate to think what it was making now.

Poker Pulse has the amount per day up near $140m.

I think we can safely say this years TV schedule has brought in some new players and money!

I wonder how much of the increase is down to successful players taking their winnings from the fish and moving up the limits. I doubt that much money ever gets taken out the system - a lot of players just move up the limits. I reckon I probably wager on average 4 or 5 times the amount I did a year ago, based on increased playing hours and higher limits.

If this is the case, I can't see the ball stopping any time soon, although competition may become harder, especially in the middle limits. I played a $3/$6 game yesterday which had a flop % of 25% for over 2 hours. Can't get much tighter than that, and thats in a low limit game. Its possible that all 9 players were winners over their playing careers.

This has been getting a lot of coverage in the US newspapers and television. Yesterday in the Sunday Chicago Tribune, there was an article about someone who quit their job and now (allegedly) makes $100,000 per year playing on-line. As long as there are enticements like this in the press, I see more and more players coming to the game.

Think not only that the money is 'in play' but that the site is holding that cash, interest free without the need to be able to repay it all at a single moment. After all, what regulations do these guys follow?

Add to that the amount of money in Neteller at any given time. I wouldn't be suprised if there was $1Billion USD tied up in online poker worldwide.

I'm sure there are plenty of people making $100k a year.

I reckon if I played full time I would make about $30k a year (based on my win rate this year)and I'm (i) not that good and (ii) generally still playing very low limits.

I agree that kind of press will bring more players - some people always think there is an easy shortcut to becoming rich, and poker seems more credible than a lot of the other shortcuts available!

All of this talk about money makes me wonder.

Just what does it take to open a PokerRoom online? I mean, it seems that you'd need some good software, some servers and maybe a WPT or WSOP winner to endorse you and then you're in business. The software and servers are available, programmers to keep things going and presto, the money flows in.

So how about it Coach. Any plans on opening up your own poker room?

You forgot the operating capital from your list! I think that it would take a substantial bankroll to start even a modest poker operation.

You have to buy the servers, pay the software license fees, hire the staff, pay deposit bonuses, pay a poker star to endorse you, pay advertising, (how much do you suppose a 30 sec spot on WPT costs?) etc, etc, etc, and all of this has to be done offshore somewhere (its still illegal in the USA).

I'm not saying that a new poker operation can't make money, but the really golden opportunity for this may be gone. There is a lot of competition out there for your poker dollars now.

The above notwithstanding, I'll invest if someone wants to give it a try!!!!!

It is pretty much illegal to operate an online casino as a US citizen. Just ask Kenny Rogers.

Oh yea, there is all that to consider. I'll kick in $10.00 to get things rolling. LOL. That being about all I can afford.

Interesting that it's illegal in the "land of the free." Hmmmm...

Well, that explains why so many of them are located in Gibralter.
